ABOUT MY TEACHING
Classes will be Mysore style to ensure that each student is given personal attention to support their learning of each asana (posture) and associated vinyasa count (transition in and out of each asana). My role is to provide verbal and physical adjustments which help students find the correct foundation, bandha (lock) and breath to work each asana effectively.
Each class will start with a short period of sitting where you will encouraged to connect with your breath to help provide focus prior to your asana practice. You will be taught a closing seated sequence which calms the breath and mind before your final relaxation.
In order to get the most out of your yoga practice I advise that you refrain from eating a large meal at least 2 hours before practising. You should also avoid drinking water during practice as Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is about generating heat within the body which we want to retain. Having said that it is very important that you are well hydrated before class and drink plenty of water after practice. It is usual to sweat during practice so you may wish to bring a small towel with you.
A final note about learning the sequence, it can feel a little over whelming at the start to remember the sequence but I ask that you trust in the system and remember that repetition is the key and I am always happy to provide you with help so don't be concerned about asking again and again if necessary! A strong practice in my opinion is the student that puts effort into learning the sequence, the correct transition in and out of each asana and works with awareness to ensure they have foundation, breath and bandha during their practice.
